Some new car companies in August results announced, who is the winner?

On September 2, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers estimated that the auto sales volume in August 2022 was 2.295 million, down 5.2% month on month and up 27.2% year on year, based on the weekly data reported by key enterprises. In the January-August period of 2022, 16.772 million vehicles were sold, up 1.2 percent year-on-year. New energy vehicle sales are the focus of the industry, and some car companies have announced August sales. Let's take a look:

In August, GAC sold 27,021 units, up 133 percent year on year. In the first eight months of this year, GAC Aian's cumulative sales volume was 152,305 units, up 134 percent year on year. Gu Huinan, general manager of GAC Auto, said at the release of GAC Group's semi-annual report on August 30 that GAC Auto will deliver 300,000 units in 2022.

In February this year, GAC Aian completed the production capacity upgrade of the first plant, which increased from 100,000 to 200,000 units. Meanwhile, the transformation of GAC's Asian No. 2 plant (formerly GAC Fike Guangzhou plant) is underway. According to the plan, the second plant will be completed and put into use by the end of 2022. In addition, who will take over GAC Fick's production plant in Changsha when it ceases operations? Gac Aian, which is backed by GAC Group and has a need for capacity, is no doubt one of the potential buyers.

From January to June this year, GAC's cumulative sales volume was 100,000 units. When the results of the first half of the year were announced, some people thought that it was impossible for GAC to achieve the target of "annual 300,000 vehicles", because the progress was only 30% in half of the time. The fact is that China's car market has always been "low in the front and high in the back". The sales volume in the second half of the year accounts for nearly 60% of the annual sales volume, and new energy vehicles can even reach 70%. Every December, the sales of new energy vehicles will have a "carry-over" effect, the sales volume of the month is worth the sales volume of the first half of the quarter. Therefore, although the first half of the year only completed 100,000 vehicles, the GAC Ai safety year "300,000 vehicles" target did not shake.

Judging by August sales, GAC Aan is already "revving up" to increase supply and turn orders into deliveries. At this year's Chengdu Auto Show, GAC Aian released the 2023 AION V PLUS, offering a seven-seater version, announcing its entry into the "seven-seater" market segment. The seven-seater car can meet the travel needs of a multi-family. Sales of seven-seater cars have been modest, but demand has been there. Entering the market segment of seven-seater cars will increase the sales volume of GAC Ai 'an and bring more imagination space.


In August, Xpeng delivered 9,578 new cars, up 33 percent from a year earlier. Since this year, Xpeng has delivered more than 90,000 cars, nearly doubling in the same period compared with 2021.

Earlier on Aug. 23, Xpeng Automobile released its second-quarter financial results. According to the financial statement, in Q2 this year, Xpeng's total revenue was 7.436.3 billion yuan, up 97.7% compared with the same period last year. The total revenue in the first half of the year was nearly 15 billion yuan, up 121.9 percent year on year.

The sales volume of Xpeng Automobile in August did not continue to stand at the height of "monthly sales of ten thousand vehicles", mainly for two reasons: first, the overall environment of supply chain repeated this year and the rise of raw material costs, which affected the overall performance of the car market. Second, Xpeng P5 failed to become a "sales leader" similar to P7, and its sales volume was only 2,678 units in August. The Xpeng P7 still sold 5,745 units in August, a solid performance, but as time goes on, the P7 has more direct competitors and more challenges.

The good news is that the Xpeng G9 is coming soon, which Xpeng Auto claims will be the "best SUV since 500,000 yuan". The market will tell whether that is right or overstated.

In August, Ideal sold 4,571 units. From January to August this year, Ideal delivered 75,400 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 56.5%; It has delivered nearly 200,000 vehicles in its history. The August sales figures were announced at the same time that the L8 will go on sale in November and be delivered that month.

Ideal Car is in the middle of a transition between old and new models, and sales decline, as expected. But the magnitude of the decline was unexpected. At the same time that sales are announced, information about the next new car is released -- Ideal Car has another way of explaining the decline in sales, giving itself a boost and giving consumers confidence.

There are too few models, and a gap period between models and models is formed. In the start-up stage of automobile enterprises, this situation often occurs. To shorten the empty window to the shortest, this is what the car companies want, but also what consumers expect. In September, the mass delivery of the Ideal L9 will start.
